A Year of Cookies: Christmas Trees

This is my first attempt at decorated Christmas tree cookies.  I was going for a green tree with lights and red and gold ball ornaments.  The green base is done in 15 second royal icing (forest green) from a squeeze bottle that was dried for an hour, then dried for an hour.

From there, I added a light string in 30 second icing (black) with a #1 tip and allowed to dry for another 30 minutes before adding the "lights" done in plain white 30 second icing with a #2 tip.  The ornament balls were done with 15 second icing in red and gold and a #3 tip.  The gold ornaments turned out yellow despite having added the "glitter powder" to the mix, so there is definitely some room for improvement there.

I'm really looking forward to expanding on theses with some additional texture using white sugar or using a multi-toned single color palate.  Below are the trees in individual steps.
