The cookies for the teachers this month were decorated eggs, crosses, lambs and doves, as it's a Christian school. The eggs are an adaptation of these lovely Delft Easter Eggs that Sugargelle made last year. I tried using the Wilton color spray to start and ended up with a disaster of muddled prints, mostly because I was using 15 second icing rather than a pipe and flood which makes the icing top a bit domed, rather than the flat that you need for good stencil coverage. From there, I switched over to a spread icing technique like these Stenciled Damask Cookies, which after a bit of practice turned out some very satisfactory results. The key seems to be to spread the piping icing on a knife (or an actual tool for spreading) before spreading it thinly over the stencil.
My husband has taken to looking over my shoulder while I'm decorating and pronouncing "insane" with each new creation. I'm sure he means it in the best way possible... almost sure.
